Questions and answers

How the book works, how to keep a copy, and how to take it to a new phone. Can’t find it here? Write to hello@tallmark.app.

Getting started

Do I need an account?

No. There’s nothing to sign up for. Open Tallmark, write the name on the cover, and make the first page.

The one sign-in you might see is on Android, if you turn on backup to Google Drive: Google asks once so Tallmark can use its own hidden folder in your Drive. It can’t see anything else there.

Is Tallmark on Android?

Yes, on iPhone and Android from the same day, with the same book. The home screen widget is iPhone only for now.

What is the see-through page?

When you take today’s photo, yesterday’s page shows through the camera. Set today’s photo in the same spot and the flipbook holds still while they grow. You can switch it off in Settings.

What if I miss a day?

The book carries on. A day without a photo is simply a page you skipped, and the flipbook turns straight past it.

If you took a photo that day with your camera, you can bring it in later and it lands on the right page.

Can I add older photos?

Yes. Choose photos from your library and each one goes on the page for the day it was taken. Started late? The first weeks can still go in the book.

Can Tallmark remind me?

Yes, if you’d like it to. Pick the time that suits your day and Tallmark lets you know it’s page time. Nothing nags if you skip it.

Can I start before the baby is born?

Yes. Bump pages go in their own chapter at the front of the book, before day one, and they can open the flipbook too.

What’s in the guide?

Page ideas for each stage of the first three years: week by week at first, then month by month. Short and practical: what to try for this month’s pages, and a photo tip. It never tells you what your baby should be doing.

Backup and moving phones

How does backup work?

Backup is off until you turn it on, in Settings, then Backup. On iPhone it goes to Tallmark’s own folder in your iCloud. On Android it goes to Tallmark’s own hidden folder in your Google Drive. Either way it’s your account and your storage; nothing comes to us.

After the first backup, Tallmark only sends what’s new: today’s photo and a fresh copy of the book’s pages. By default it waits for Wi-Fi.

You can also make a backup file whenever you like: one file with every photo and page, to keep wherever you keep things. A year of daily pages is usually around 100 MB.

How do I restore a backup?

From iCloud or Google Drive: on a new phone, Tallmark offers to restore when it first opens. You can also choose Restore in Settings, then Backup.

From a backup file: in Settings, then Backup, choose the file. What’s in the app is moved aside first, not deleted, in case you picked the wrong one.

How do I move to a new phone?

Same kind of phone: turn on backup to your own iCloud (iPhone) or Google Drive (Android). When Tallmark first opens on the new phone, it offers to bring the book back.

From iPhone to Android, or the other way: in Tallmark, go to Settings, then Backup, and make a backup file. Move the file to the new phone however you like (a cable, AirDrop, a cloud drive, an email to yourself) and open it in Tallmark there.

Can two parents use it?

Tallmark runs on iPhone and Android, so the book can live on either parent’s phone. It lives on one phone at a time: there’s no shared online copy, because that would mean your photos coming to us.

To hand the book over, make a backup file on one phone and open it in Tallmark on the other.

What happens if I delete the app?

Because the book lives on your phone, deleting Tallmark deletes the book on that phone. Make a backup first, to your own iCloud or Google Drive or as a backup file, and you can bring it back any time.

The flipbook, cards and the printed book

What can I choose for the flipbook?

Every page, or one a week, or one a month. Your own music. Captions for the age and for milestone stickers. It’s a full-quality MP4 with no watermark, free.

With Tallmark Plus you can also play it backwards from today, make it a story, post, square or wide shape, or save it as a GIF.

What are share cards?

Pages made ready to send: Polaroid, Milestone, Then & now, Every birthday and Month recap. Every card comes in the Scrapbook style for free.

Tallmark Plus adds seven more styles (Post office, Minimal, Film, Watercolour, Chalkboard, Linen and Sunshine) and new ones as they come. Each child keeps the style you choose for them.

Can I print the book?

Yes, with Tallmark Plus. Tallmark makes a photo book as a PDF: a cover, a chapter for each month, and the pages with their stickers and notes. Print it at home, or take the file to any print shop.

Tallmark Plus

Is Tallmark free?

Yes. Keeping the book is free, for as many children as you like: every page, sticker, note and growth entry, reminders, the see-through page, the guide, backup to your own iCloud or Google Drive, and the flipbook video at full quality with no watermark.

Tallmark Plus is optional. It adds every card style beyond Scrapbook, the photo book to print, GIF flipbooks, and more ways to play the flipbook. You can take it yearly (with a week free first), monthly, or pay once for life. The app shows the price in your currency before you choose.

Subscriptions renew until you cancel them in your App Store or Google Play account. If Plus ends, nothing you made is touched: saved cards, videos and books stay yours.

Does Tallmark Plus come with me to a new phone?

Yes, on the same kind of phone: on the new one, open Settings in Tallmark and choose Restore purchases, signed in to the same Apple or Google account.

A purchase belongs to the store it was made in, so Plus bought on an iPhone doesn’t carry over to Android, or the other way. There’s no Tallmark account to tie them together. The book itself moves either way, with a backup file.

What does buying Plus share?

Apple or Google take the payment. Our payment service, RevenueCat, keeps a record of the purchase against a random ID made on your phone, so Plus knows it’s yours. No name, no email, and never your book.

Children, privacy and the rest

Can I keep a book for each of my children?

Yes, as many as you like. Each child gets their own book, their own colour and their own card style, and you can lay two children side by side at the same age.

Is there AI?

No, and there won’t be. The flipbook, the cards and the photo book are all made on your phone. Your photos are never sent to an AI service, or to us.

Is there a dark mode?

Yes, the night nursery: deep ink paper and cream writing, easy on eyes at a 3am feed. It follows your phone, or you can choose it in Settings.
